It is readily apparent to all now that Artificial Intelligence is here to stay, and it will revolutionize modern life. In the educational sphere, ChatGPT and other generative AI platforms are beginning to create both substantial opportunities and serious challenges for scholars and teachers. At Sofia, we are committed to pushing the limits on how rapid developments in technology change the way we teach and learn. As such, we are proud to introduce to our Sofia family our quarterly AI workshops! At the beginning of each term, we will hold interactive seminars learning how to use AI and how to watch out for ways it can be abused. Of course, AI is just the first wave of change coming from Web 3.0. In time we will be expanding our discussions to include deep dives into blockchain technology and quantum computing, virtual reality and augmented reality, the metaverse and immersive computing, and much much more.
Our first workshop will be on JULY 27th 1pm to 5:30pm.
The event will be put on by our own Sofia faculty and staff.
Dr. Steven Gold will introduce the session with a general introduction to AI and immersive computing.
Dr. Dorote Lucci will discuss transpersonal psychology, theories of consciousness, and how we can better understand AI.
Dr. Simone DiMatteo will explain the nature of prompt writing and then lead a special team ‘Turing test’ experiment. Students will break into groups and use creative prompting to see which team can create a narrative with the best examples of AI behavior that might be called ‘consciousness’.
Dr. Donna Dulo will close the session with an open discussion around AI and cybersecurity.
There will be a $35 seminar fee for students.
Activities will be held simultaneously on both the Costa Mesa and Palo Alto campuses and online.
